Machine Translation Summit

“This is great professional exposure for us in the ADAPT Centre here in Dublin City University to host such a prestigious conference”.
Prof. Andy Way: Dublin City University- International Association for Machine Translation -IAMT 2019

The conference is organised by the European Association for Machine Translation. Traditionally, the MT Summit is the place where researchers, developers, users and vendors all get together under one roof to discuss the issues of the day. Accordingly, we are especially interested in papers which demonstrate a clear interaction between researchers and practitioners who are applying MT technology to their specific use-cases.

“The benefits of hosting a conference in Ireland are allowing us showcase what we can do in the Irish healthcare service as pain physicians. We can try and promote this from an Irish perspective which is very important. We bring the best things of Irish culture and Irish background to the fore and gives the candidates a feeling of learning in a very different environment than they would have been used to.”

Why Business Events are Important to Ireland

Tourism is big business in Ireland. Pre-coronavirus in 2020, tourism accounted for 260,000 or 1 in 9 jobs and was worth almost €8billion to the economy every year.  Business Tourism, as you know, is one of the most lucrative sectors, with each delegate worth three times that of a leisure traveller at €1,600.  It is worth an annual €750million to the economy and supports over 20,000 jobs– equating to 15% of all international tourism revenue.

The future path ahead is challenging for us all, but this pandemic won’t be here forever.

While we have all survived the last number of months in a virtual world, people do need to meet, to learn, to communicate, to share knowledge, to network and do business. It is so important for academics to share their research, for people to do business and to network.  International business conferences are not only lucrative in terms of generating significant revenue for regions across the country, but they also position Ireland as a recognised centre of innovation and excellence. The impact of hosting these international conferences in Ireland goes beyond the tourism and economic gain to include palpable knowledge transfer, a boost to our global credibility and the chance to promote Irish innovation within world-leading networks.

With this imagination, passion, expertise, and collaboration, we will mould a new and vibrant future together for Business Tourism.

Ireland’s Conference Ambassador Programme

For a small island, Ireland shines on the global stage when it comes to its international reputation. With top international conferences and scores of high-profile meetings taking place here every year, Ireland’s Conference Ambassadors have helped boost the nation’s profile on the world stage by drawing academic and professional peers and colleagues to our shores for successful events. 75% of all conferences confirmed for Ireland each year are secured by an Irish Conference Ambassador; that’s why Fáilte Ireland partners with top thinkers, innovators, and researchers at home and overseas through the Conference Ambassador Programme. Local hosts or Conference Ambassadors are sector leaders or influencers in their field, and as Irish representatives of international organisations, they are identified as being well-placed to spark interest or host an international conference in Ireland.

By bringing an international conference to Ireland in their field, it reflects well on the ambassador and their organisation, provides an opportunity to showcase their successes, and strengthens their networks. It’s also a chance to create a unique and fun gathering for colleagues and peers, while demonstrating what the famous Irish welcome is all about, and the amazing amenities the country offers.
